Việc chống thất thoát nước sinh hoạt đã được nhiều đại biểu Hội đồng nhân dân TP.HCM đề cập và kiến nghị các giải pháp từ khá lâu, nhưng đến nay, vì nhiều lý do khác nhau, vẫn chưa thực hiện được. Vấn đề này được đem ra bàn thảo một lần nữa tại hội thảo về giao thông đô thị và cung cấp nước sạch do Hội đồng nhân dân TP.HCM tổ chức sáng ngày 8/9/2009.

Thiết bị hiện tại công ty cổ Phần Cấp Nước Gia Định đang sử dụng là đồng hồ điện từ ISoilMag ML250 ứng dụng để đo đọc chống thất thoát cho vùng thí điểm. Các thiết bị dò bể bao gồm: Bút khuyếch đại âm kiểm tra đồng hồ và các van LEAKPEN, thiết bị khuyếch đại âm LOG1A của Wagamet;
